Senior Underground Geologist

Crocodile Gold Australia Operations are currently seeking an experienced Senior Underground Geologist for a 12 month Fixed Term Contract.

Reporting to the Geology Superintendent you will be required to help manage the geological processes for the Cosmo UG operations, while ensuring adherence to all statutory requirements and Company Safety, Health and Environmental standards and procedures.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Help lead a team of Geologists to ensure all activities are conducted towards reaching the common goal of maximising recovery
  • Reviewing and analysing mining and Diamond drilling data for grade estimation
  • Responsible for capturing diamond drill Geotechnical information
  • Reviewing grade estimation and ore delineation using Surpac
  • Planning and scheduling of all Geological Services associated with the UG operations on site
  • Effective direction and supervision of mine geologists and geotechnicians in mine production
  • Lead from the front to ensure compliance with the companies safety conscious culture
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key internal and external stakeholders
  • Technical reports based on resource definition and production findings
  • Internal reporting as required
  • Set up and modify Underground Geological procedures
  • Responsible for all geological QAQC
  • Responsible for managing underground mapping and sampling
  • 3D modeling using Surpac mining software
  • AcQuire Database management
  • Design and implementation of all Drilling programs
  • Production reconciliation
  • Resource estimations

To be successful in this role you will have the following skills and attributes:

  • Tertiary qualification in Geology
  • At least 10 years relevant experience in Underground mining preferably gold
  • Have a strong background in structural geology
  • Good understanding of Resource modeling, estimation and geostatistics
  • Experience in the use of Geological software is essential prefer Surpac, as well as Microsoft Office
  • Sound knowledge of relevant statutory safety requirements and the ability to provide leadership and motivation to your team
  • The ability to work autonomously and manage your time around priorities by delegating to a team of geologists
  • Be a good relationship builder so that juniors respond to your leadership positively

Open Pit Mining Engineer

Crocodile Gold NT Operations are currently seeking an Open Pit Mining Engineer to join their Technical Services Department.

The Open Pit Mining Engineer role exists to provide Crocodile Gold’s NT Operations with in-house capacity for open pit and waste dump optimisation and design capability.  When not performing these activities, the incumbent will assist with supporting the Cosmo Deeps underground operation.

This is a DIDO position on a 5 day on 2 day off roster.

Key Role Objectives

  • Perform open pit optimisation and design work
  • Design waste rock dumps and seepage drains
  • Preparation of mine design and optimisation study reports
  • Supervision of surface mining contractors as required
  • Perform general underground mining engineering duties
  • Comply with all instructions given by the employer which relate to health and safety
  • Comply with all environmental policies and procedures
  • Report immediately any injury or harm to your health which has occurred in the course of your work

Required Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor of Mining Engineer Degree or equivalent
  • 3 – 5 years’ experience with Open Pit and Waste Dump optimisation, design and scheduling
  • Proficient with pit optimisation software (Whittle preferred), pit design software (Surpac preferred) and scheduling software (such as, Minesched or EPS)
  • Computer literate in Microsoft (MS) Office products such as Word and Excel (desirable)
  • Practical experience working in an open pit environment
  • Exposure to working in an underground environment, preferred but not essential
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and organisational skills
  • Honest and confidential
  • Pro-active, self-starter capable of working in a small team of professionals

Applications are sought from current/permanent residents of the NT (specifically Darwin and its surrounds) or applicants who are willing to relocate to the NT.

This position will not be suitable for fly in fly out (FIFO) arrangements, and a relocation package will be available for exceptional interstate candidates.
